The Company

Sportsvendo was established in 1991 and is a sport marketing and event management company. Headed by Leon Swanepoel, a past winner of the Athens Marathon and a Comrades Marathon gold medallist, the company has organised, marketed and co-ordinated some 600 events with some 30 000 participants annually. Some of Sportsvendo's feats were the very successful presentation of the World Duathlon Championships during 2000 as well as a number of national corporate events for well-respected companies such as J.P Morgan Chase, Medihelp and Bank Windhoek.

An affiliate company of Sportsvendo. Is Sport Endeavours International which holds the rights in South Africa to the New York City Marathon since 1991 and other international events.

The Company currently specialises in road running, cycling, duathlon, swimming and walking events and as such boasts an involvement or association with all the largest and most prestigious sporting events in South Africa.

The Company's CEO

Leon Swanepoel has a strong business and sporting background, having enjoyed a successful career as a professional athlete during the late eighties. Some of the highlights include winning the International Athens Marathon, two gold medals in the Comrades Marathon and a 9th position in the 100km World Championships in addition to winning several other road races.

Professionally, he has extensive accounting and administration experience and before establishing Sportsvendo held senior management positions in banking and accounting.
