WALKERS SHOW THEIR CLASS AND GOODWILL
Springbok walkers, Chris Britz and Susan Vermeulen, joint hordes of walkers to
take part the fourth Goodwill Big Walk that took place at the Union Buildings on
Saturday 15 February.
Both Britz and Vermeulen once again showed their class by taking honours in the 10km event.
Britz won in 50:36 and Vermeulen in 54:05.
A fellow Springbok Carl Meyer (54:19) followed Britz and Sedick Isaacs (58:58)
filled in the third spot. Vermeulen, however, was much too strong for Barbara Nell
(58:59) and Zelda Skea (60:16).
Both Britz and Vermeulen are current SA record holders. Britz holds the SA record in the
3 000m, 5 000m and 10 000m track evets as well as in the 20km and 30km road events.
Vermeulen is the SA and Africa record holder in the 10km and 20km road events.
Walkers were inspired to make a difference by entering the event for fun and
enjoyment and also by donating worn clothing and shoes for the benefit of needy
people.
A huge pile of clothing and shoes were collected. The proceeds will be distributed to
needy people in the Tshwane area.
A walker from Harmony Gold, Danie Marais, won the 20km for men in 1:48:21 and
Susan Blignaut of Run Walk for Life the women's event in 2:09:53.
Abraham Molena won the 5km for men and Tshegofotso Taukobong was the first woman over the
