50KM IAU CHAMPIONSHIP SOUTH AFRICA
2023 IAU 50 km

We are very pleased to announce that the 2023 IAU 50 km World Championships were granted to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The Championships will take place on 28th May 2023 and they will be organized by Athletics South Africa, with the LOC, Sportsvendo International. It is the first time in IAU history that World Championship will be organized in the continent of Africa.

Sportvendo, a 30 year old Sport Event Management Company has experience producing World Championship events. They were behind the ITU Powerman Duathlon World Championships, the event coordinators for the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge and also played host to this Corporate World Championship when it took place in South Africa.

Port Elizabeth lies on Algoa Bay of the Indian Ocean and it was established in 1820 as a British settlement around Fort Frederick and was incorporated as a town in 1861. Port Elizabeth became a city in 1913, after completion of the Kimberley Railroad (1873) spurred development of the port. Port Elizabeth is well-known as the watersports capital of South Africa and home of Ironman Africa. Algoa bay is home to scuba diving, game fishing charters, surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding and now it is time to have for the first time IAU 50 km World Championships.

The IAU and the LOC welcome you to participate in these Championships! We are convinced that the experienced LOC, together with the beauty of the city and region of Port Elizabeth are
a great combination for hosting the IAU 50 km World Championships. You all will leave with long-lasting memories of the event and surroundings.
