Our History

30 Years and 1000 sporting events (and Counting)

1996

Sportsvendo presented their first international event in South Africa in 1996. This was the Powerman duathlon which was part of an international series of events, taking place in 15 cities.

1998

In 1998 Old Mutual contracted Sportsvendo to co-ordinate the National Finals of the Old Mutual Victory Races. Owing to a successful event and the fact that Sportsvendo generated free publicity for Old Mutual, worth ten times more than their sponsorship amount, contracts for 1999 followed which included the Makhulu Walk and Makhulu Swim – all these events were conceptualised by Sportsvendo.

New Millennium

The new millennium saw Sportsvendo receive yet another accolade after successful negotiations in Switzerland. Sportsvendo became the first sport marketing company to present a duathlon World Championship on African soil – the Powerman Duathlon. The International Triathlon Union (ITU) credited the event (the then third largest duathlon in the world and the biggest in South Africa) as one of the best championships ever.

2003

In 2003 another honour was bestowed upon Sportsvendo when Triathlon South Africa approached Sportsvendo to present the SA Aquathlon Championships. The event was a great success with television coverage on two networks in South Africa.
